Local Tips

Aomori produces 60% of Japan's apples — the autumn harvest season (September–November) fills the roadside with farm stands selling varieties unavailable anywhere else in Japan. Apple juice, dried apple, and apple vinegar are the best food souvenirs. The Hirosaki Apple Park (free entry) has 80 varieties in one place — excellent for understanding the breadth of production. Combine with Hirosaki Castle for a full Aomori day.
