Local Tips
Check the Japan Meteorological Agency volcanic alert level before visiting — the crater closes frequently at Level 2 or above. Even when the crater is closed, the caldera rim viewpoints (Daikanbo, Kusasenri meadow) remain extraordinary. The morning sea of clouds filling the caldera is best seen October–November from Daikanbo.
