Local Tips

Hagi produced more Meiji-era leaders than any other city in Japan — the samurai quarter that raised Ito Hirobumi is still largely intact. Rent a bicycle at Higashi Hagi Station — the castle district and Tera-machi temple street form a satisfying 3-hour loop. Hagi-yaki pottery (soft, pastel-toned) is the ideal local souvenir.
