Karato is Shimonoseki's main market — fugu (blowfish) is the local specialty and available year-round. The weekend sushi market (Fri–Sun from 10:00) is the most accessible time to eat fresh sushi and sashimi directly in the market building at very low prices. The Kanmon Strait and Kyushu are visible just across the water.
