Local Tips

One of Japan's twelve original (non-reconstructed) castle keeps — the interior wooden structure is largely original from 1748. The castle sits on a hill above Kochi city; the park grounds are excellent for cherry blossoms in April. The Sunday Tosa market (Oidono-san market, from 6am) at the castle's east gate is one of Japan's longest-running street markets.
