Local Tips

The white-walled kurazashiki warehouses converted into galleries and shops are most photogenic in morning light before the crowds. The Ohara Museum of Art is a genuine surprise — an outstanding collection of Western masters (El Greco, Monet, Picasso) in a small Japanese city. The canal boat ride (¥500, 20 min) gives the classic water-level view of the district.
