Local Tips

The nyuto tegata (wooden pass, ¥1,300) allows access to any three of 29 rotenburo (outdoor baths) across the village's ryokan. The forest-and-river setting is the finest of any onsen village in Kyushu. Visit on a weekday in autumn for the best foliage combined with empty baths. Stay overnight to access the most exclusive baths only available to ryokan guests.
