Local Tips

Kushida Shrine is the spiritual home of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival — the enormous festival floats (kazari yamakasa) are displayed year-round inside the shrine and are genuinely impressive up close. Visit early morning when locals come to pray and the atmosphere is calm. The adjacent Hakata Machiya Folk Museum adds cultural context.
