Local Tips
One of Japan's twelve original castle keeps — the black wooden exterior boards give it its nickname 'Black Castle' (Chidori-jo). The castle boat moat cruise (Horikawa sightseeing boat) is the most enjoyable way to see the castle and surroundings. Combine with Lafcadio Hearn's former residence and Izumo Taisha for a full Shimane day.
