Local Tips

The 123 torii gates cascading down a clifftop to the Sea of Japan are one of Japan's most dramatic shrine approaches. The offering box is at the top of the last torii (not at the bottom) — successfully throwing a coin in is considered good fortune and genuinely difficult. Visit in the golden hour before sunset when the orange torii glow intensely. Remote — 40 min drive from Nagato city.
