Local Tips

The 200m-high sea cliffs extend for 8km — one of the most dramatic coastlines in Japan. The sightseeing boat from Kitayamazaki (May–Oct) gives the best perspective from the water. The cliffop walking trail is 8km one way; the observation deck at the Sunadoriya viewpoint is accessible without the full hike. Combine with Jodogahama Beach (1 hour south) for a full Sanriku coast day.
