Lake Shoji

The smallest and least visited of the Fuji Five Lakes — a pristine lake surrounded by forest with the "Diamond Fuji" phenomenon visible twice a year when the sun sets precisely at the Fuji summit. The northern shores have no hotels or shops, making dawn here the quietest Fuji reflection experience in the entire region.

Why Visit

  • 1

"Diamond Fuji" — twice yearly the sun sets exactly at the summit, creating a diamond-light effect

  • 2

The least visited Fuji Five Lake — often completely empty at dawn

  • 3

Panoramic Fuji view from the southern shore includes the entire northern face without obstruction

Local Tips

The smallest and least visited of the Fuji Five Lakes — and therefore the most peaceful. The southern shore gives the famous 'double diamond' Fuji view (mountain reflected in the lake with Fuji appearing to have twin peaks). The Aokigahara Forest begins at the eastern edge of the lake. Kayak rental is available for exploring the lakeshore.
