Local Tips

The one-hour abridged kagura (sacred dance-drama) performed nightly at Takachiho Shrine is a condensed version of the 33-act overnight version performed privately in local farmhouses November–February. The four dances shown — including Ame no Uzume's dance that lured Amaterasu from the cave — are extraordinarily vivid and moving. Arrive by 19:30 to get a good seat.
