Local Tips

The 1,780m bridge connects the Shimonoseki coast to Tsunoshima's white sand beaches and lighthouse-topped cliffs. The water around the island is exceptional — Tsunoshima Beach has electric blue water similar to Okinawa. The lighthouse (Japan's oldest stone lighthouse, 1876) is a 20-minute walk from the bridge. Combine with Motonosumi Inari Shrine (1 hour south) for a full western Yamaguchi coast day.
