Lake Kinrinko in the valley floor produces morning mist (umihotaru-giri) from late autumn through winter — arrive by 7:00 AM for the best fog. The surrounding wooden craft shops and cafes open from around 9:00 AM. This is one of Yufuin's most photographed scenes.
