Zentsuji Temple

The largest and most sacred temple on the 88-temple pilgrimage — the birthplace of Kobo Daishi (Kukai), founder of Shingon Buddhism, in 774 AD. The underground tunnel walk is uniquely immersive.

Birthplace of the monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi) and the spiritual starting point of the 88-temple Shikoku Pilgrimage. The 100 miniature statues allow you to complete the entire pilgrimage in one visit. The 5-storied pagoda is a landmark; arrive at dawn when incense smoke drifts through the cedar grove.
