Starting from Imabari (Ehime side) the route heads northeast to Onomichi through the islands. Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge — three consecutive suspension bridges over a tidal current — is the most dramatic section. Omishima Island's Oyamazumi Shrine (samurai armour treasure hall) is the cultural highlight en route. Hakata cycling terminal on Hakata Island offers good accommodation and excellent seafood.
