Yoshino Cherry Blossom Mountain

Japan's most celebrated cherry blossom site — 30,000 trees covering four distinct zones of Mt Yoshino that bloom sequentially from late March to late April. The tradition of planting here began 1,300 years ago as sacred offerings to Zao Gongen. The mountain is also a UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage site on the Omine mountain path.

Local Tips

Yoshino has 30,000 cherry trees across four zones (shimo, naka, kami, oku-senbon). Go to Oku-senbon (the highest zone) for the least crowds — most visitors stop at the lower zones. Take the ropeway up and walk down for the best gradient of bloom.
